Black Friday

Well, it's Black Friday which means I survived Thanksgiving without going to the hospital for over-eating. There is NO WAY I'm going out today. Maybe to the grocery store, but definitely not out Xmas shopping. The drivers in this town are nuts! I plan to just sit around, maybe do some laundry and other domestic stuff, cook dinner and go to bed. The wife went up to the Mom-in-laws for the rest of the weekend so I'm on my own now. Probably going to be a lot of beer involved for the next couple of days.

Oh, and check out what I got for an early Xmas present (or Thanksgiving present):

Sure I might look like a 'tard wearing it but I'm a fan. And let's face it, some fans wear weirder stuff than this. For example, those "Hogs" that are Redskins fans that wear dresses.

Sunday in Philly

So, Sunday in Philly was filled with more touristy stuff. Saw the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall (didn't take the tour as it's under reconstruction) and the Betsy Ross house. Seems like you can't turn a corner in downtown Philly without finding something historic to stare at.

The Liberty Bell

Independence Hall

Betsy Ross House

I gotta say, Betsy must've been one hell of a lay. She'd been married 3 times!

Then it was off to the game at Lincoln Financial Field where Kris got to see his Eagles play in their home stadium. Although they lost he still had a real good time.

The Philly Trip

Just flew in from Philly and, boy, are my arms tired!
Seriously, We flew out to Philly on 10/2 and returned 10/4. What a hectic weekend! Got there early enough to go downtown and see Rocky and the Rocky Steps.

And, yes, Kris and I actually did run up the stairs. Man, did I ever need a cigarette after that!
More about Sunday later...

It's Football Season!

Finally! Bears vs Lions today. Bears favored by 6.5. Sure there was a Thursday game that opened the season (glad the Vikings lost) but now I actually have something to look forward to on Sundays. GO BEARS!

Cubs 1, Brewers 0

Our company held our annual summer outing this year at the Cubs/Brewers game in Milwaukee. Tailgating beforehand and then the game. Had a lot of fun. My wife thought I had TOO much fun. I beg to differ. Think I only had 4 beers the whole game. And the Cubs won! A little late in the season to come alive tho'. Maybe next year. (Haven't we been saying that for about 103 years now?)

It's been awhile...

Since my last posting. Just lazy I guess. There's nothing new really going on but that's the whole idea of "Mediocrity in Action" isn't it?

Aug 26. Annual United Way Danfoss Golf outing. The tradition behind this is mainly to get a 1/2 day off work to play golf, drink beer, and do something for the United Way. Been playing in it now for 9 years. The worst (or best) part of it is the last of the nine holes we play. All the hecklers wait around and, well, heckle you as you come in. It's a best ball game but you have to look like a pro to avoid being ridiculed coming in. Doesn't matter how well you play the first 8 (which I did well this year but nobody saw) but you have to look good on the ninth. And this year, I looked like a bag of Poo-poo. Judy won longest drive (in the fairway/women) for the 3 year in a row now. And for the first time they had raffles going on. I actually won the 50/50. $112.50 put in my back pocket. I figure I came out ahead after green fees and beers. Here's our foursome:

Handsome bunch, huh? Well, except for the guys.

Labor Day weekend:

Haven't done a damn thing all weekend. But isn't that what you're supposed to do? Saturday I went and got a haricut, filled the tank up in the VW, bought a case of beer and then sat around the house staring at the wife and cats while drinking the beer. Sunday, slept in, took a nap, raided the fridge for leftovers for dinner, went to bed. Today we might go golf. Then grill out, drink beer, go to bed. When it's all over and done with I think I'll call it a pretty good long weekend.

9/29/2010

This is the date Kris turns 16 as mentioned in the below post. Besides getting the Jetta (I think we'll be pulling some money from his savings just to teach him that not everything in life is just going to be handed to him) we're also taking him on a trip to Philadelphia to see the Eagles play the 'Skins on Oct 3. The eagles are his favortie team. Don't ask me why, it's just who he seems to have picked as his favorite.

4 tickets to the game, flight, hotel, rental car = $2000.00
(We really do spoil that kid)

We'll have the whole weekend in Philly which will give us a chance to see such things as the Liberty Bell, Indepence Hall, and whatever other historical stuff we can find. Oh, and we'll all definitely run up the "Rocky" stairs.

The Wife's 2010 Malibu

I think we'll just call it the "BU". Picked it up last night. It's a standard Chevy Malibu 1LT. But we had the dealer upgrade the interior to heated leather seats. This thing has all the bells and whistles except for the automatic butt wiper. OnStar, XM, bluetooth, cruise, power seats, remote start and dozens more to numerous to mention.

I think I'm covered for birthdays, anniversaries, Christmases, Valentine's days, etc. for at least the next 6 years.

We're keeping the Jetta (the dealer really wanted it since it's a 99 with only 65,000 miles). We'll be giving that to Kris for his 16th birthday when he gets his DL. In the meantime I'll be driving either or the Jetta or my truck. I'll switch back and forth. The biggest problem we have right now is parking and jockeying the cars around to get out of the garage/driveway.

Oh my aching head...

Jimmy Buffett concert last night. I think that there's a possibility that I had a few too many beers. Not sure where all the bruises came from. Pretty sure I wasn't in a fight. Everyone has a good time at a Buffett concert. Went with the son-in-law so I didn't have to drive. That might be why I feel so...so...well...crappy/fuzzy/hungover. Judy would like me to do some yard work but she knows deep down that ain't happening today. She'll be lucky if I can manage to help her with the laundry.

1,740 lbs

Been doing a lot of yard work these past couple of weeks. Had a 4 trunk river birch cut down in our side lawn. $400.00. Then I had another guy come out to grind the stumps (we also cut down a few bushes). $260.00. Loaded all the mulch/dirt from the grinding into the old pick-em-up-truck and hauled it to the dump. Free of charge since it was clean fill. Total of that was 940 lbs.

There is (was) all kinds of flagstones laid out around the yard making sort of a patio. I always hated them so I took 1/2 a day on Friday to dig 'em up and get rid of them. Took them to the dump this morning. $20.00 to dump those. 1,740 lbs of rock. The truck was riding mighty low. I was beginning to wonder if I'd pop a wheely since the back was so low and the front was kind of high. I mean, look at all this crap:

The Big 5-0

Well, today's the day. I'm officially 50 (pronounced fity). What have I received for me birfday so far? 50 $1.00 bills from my mom. Jimmy Buffett tickets (which I purchased myself), somewhat tipsy on Friday after work.
I sent out a Power Point presentation at work a week ago inviting people to come celebrate with me at Jax Pub. It had pictures from age 3 months thru to today. Everyone enjoyed it. And there was a good turn out at the bar. Now the shop floor got off work at 2:30 so I took a half day vacation to start early with them all. They were also celebrating receiving their yearly bonus.
I think I behaved myself rather well. I only did one shot of some kind of specialty drink and had beers lined up all evening. Everytime someone new showed up to the bar they also brought me a beer. At one point I had 5 beers lined up and waiting. I gave just one away to someone else who drank Miller Lite. The rest, I managed to take care of myself.

Then the wife showed up and she let it be known that it was time to hit the road. Bummer. But it was probably a good idea as I was starting to get a good head on. I'm just glad that my truck knows the way home. LOL.

So today, of course, I've taken the day off work. I received a coupon from Bergner's for 25% off to celebrate me birfday so I think I'll go do a little shopping later. Other than that, I plan to drink a few too many more beers today.

UNCLE JIMMY!!

Saturday, June 26th 2010 my favorite artist will be playing at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre.
JIMMY BUFFETT!
Good thing I'm signed up for his newsletters at Margaritaville.com. Otherwise I would have missed when the tickets went on sale. I knew he was coming (comes here about every year). Just didn't know when the tickets went on sale. Turned out it was yesterday at 10:00am.

Now I saw him 2 years ago at the same venue but only had lawn seats. Not that enjoyable. This year I vowed I would get pavilion seating or forego seeing him this year. What luck! I got 2 tickets in the pavilion! They were only $133.00 each. The wife was not "entirely" pleased but, hey! I have a birthday coming up real soon.

Now Jimmy is also playing on 5/20 at The Woodlands, TX. Just down the street from where my sister lives. Show is sold out but they have tickets on StubHub. So just for the fun of it I looked to see if I could get a ticket and maybe visit sis and the nieces. There were several for sale but the best one was a front row center seat that had the asking price of a mere $1412.00. Add in airfare, etc. and that would be about a $2000.00 nite of debauchery!

Couldn't get the wife to buy off on that one! LOL.
